Abstract

Photometric parallaxes have been used to determine the luminosity function (LF) for a large sample of spectroscopically identified white dwarfs (WDs) found in the Luyten and Giclas common proper motion binaries (CPMBs). The LF derived for WD components of CPMBs has been corrected for incompleteness to µ ≥ 0.2″/y and mpg ≤ + 18. Comparison with the LF derived for single field WDs suggests that WDs are more commonly found in binaries.
