Abstract

Both the lifetime and the intensity of O-Ps are two useful parameters of molecular substances. In this paper only O-Ps lifetime is discussed. It is considered that the O-Ps lifetime in condensed molecular substances depends predominantly on volume-factors and dielectric properties of materials. However the chemical and paramagnetic quenching of O-Ps by molecules and active radicals in the spur can not be neglected, and sometimes affect the O-Ps lifetime considerably. A semi-empirical formula for estimation of O-Ps lifetime is obtained. By comparison between the calculated and experimental values of O-Ps lifetime (τ 3), some predictions about chemical properties and positron radiation affects on materials are gained.
