G. Abstract The difficulties encountered in using the Kramers-Kronig relations to predict the behavior of interstellar polarization are pointed out, and their value in an interpretive role is acknowledged. Observations of interstellar circular polarization lead to restrictions on the interstellar-grain composition, and additional constraints should be possible through measurements of linear polarization in the infrared and ultraviolet.
