Abstract

Summary The stark manifestations of racism and health inequity in 2020 have prompted leaders at Intermountain Healthcare to commit to a journey that addresses conditions coursing through the greater society, as well as within their own organization. They acknowledge a need to focus on areas beyond the traditional health system operation playbook. As they work to develop a new organizational culture, they are applying their experience in data collection and analysis to quickly identify instances of inequity, develop targeted solutions, track the data to assess the response, and change the culture. Early efforts using dashboards and run charts show promise, but the authors recognize that these are first steps — and there will be missteps — along this journey.
