Abstract
The theoretical analysis of the issue concerning the validity of tree species edafotypes selection and their practical application in tree selection and forest breeding in the context of genotypic and phenotypic variability is conducted. The issue is studied at the population level regionally and in connection with the theory of microevolution. The conclusions about the need for clarification of existing rules in the allocation of forest site type groups as units to form seed groups and forest seed base of tree species are made.

Summary
Зроблено висновки щодо потреби уточнення діючих норм під час виділення груп типів лісорослинних умов як одиниць для формування партій насіння та лісонасінної бази деревних порід. Дані про існування генетично зумовлених едафічних форм деревних порід наводять як вітчизняні, так і зарубіжні дослідники. Об'єкт дослідження – мінливість деревних порід у зв'язку зі змінами ґрунтових умов у межах популяцій певних видів.
