Abstract

Cultural Studies was originated in the Institute of Contemporary Culture (CCCS) of the University of Birmingham, in the 1960s and 1970s. It combined the theories and research methods of sociology, literature, media, anthropology and other fields, devoting to the attention of social reality. After developing for several decades, “cultural studies” has basically formed its theoretical system and has been widely spread all over the world. This paper will briefly discuss the interdisciplinary characteristics of cultural studies and the reasons for those features, from its origin, relation with other subjects and ultimate purpose.
