Abstract

Hyperfine structure and natural radiative lifetimes have been measured of different components of the intercombination transition in the Ga I spectrum. The gallium atoms, in an atomic beam, are excited by the light of a frequency doubled pulsed dye laser and observed by their fluorescent light. The lifetimes and the hfs are observed and compared with the corresponding transitions in indium. A theoretical interpretation using Cowan's code is given.
