Abstract

This paper presents a detailed analysis of the interaction between surface electrons and thermal oscillations (ripplons) of the liquid helium surface. The results obtained enable us to check the validity of the many different approximate descriptions of the electron-ripplon interaction that have been given. The influence of the interaction upon the kinetics of surface electrons also has been studied, with a view to establishing the possibility of obtaining information on the capillary wave spectrum.
