On the instability of a rotating body with a cavity filled with viscous liquid

Abstract

This paper deals with the stability of a uniformly rotating body with a cavity filled with an incompressible viscous fluid. Under assumption of the symmetry of the body and cavity with respect to the turn to the angle π/2 about the axisz, strong simplifications have been obtained, and a necessary condition and a general criterion of the instability have been derived.
