Abstract

The steady-state Chandler wobble of the Earth’s pole is investigated for various choices of the pole tide model. The aim of the work is to estimate the parameters of the stationary Chandler wobble. The steady motion of the Earth’s pole is considered taking into account the pole tide, which depends both on the position and on the speed of the pole. The Chandler motion of the Earth’s pole is studied on the basis of the Euler-Liouville equations with a variable tensor of inertia. It is shown that both the choice of the pole tide model and the method of estimating the parameters of the chosen model significantly affect the parameters of the steady oscillatory process of the earth’s pole and the amplitude of the necessary disturbance to excite the observed Chandler wobble.
