Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, the gradient‐based sequential quadratic programming (SQP) technique is used to determine the parameters of a finite viscoelastic material law for the description of polymeric foams. Due to the cellular structure of foams, the resulting non‐linear behaviour is reproduced by an Ogden‐type law in the framework of the Theory of Porous Media (TPM) [1]. The conformity between experimental data and numerical simulation is improved by the minimization of a least squares functional under consideration of equality and inequality constraints. The result is shown by a finite element based back‐analysis of unconfined compression tests.
