On the hypothesis of the independence of round-off errors in numerical integration

Abstract

In estimating the error in numerical integration it is sometimes assumed (see [1]) that round-off errors are random independent quantities and, on the basis of this assumption, values of the dispersion of the numerical error are obtained. In the present work one of the possible grounds of this assumption for the calculation of integrals is put forward.
