Abstract
Abstract This paper reconstructs and modernises a Marx-based theory of the transformation of feudalism into capitalism, using a combination of history of economic thought and economic history. It tries to revive and reinterpret the theory of value in a historical context and to show how it may be used, in parallel with a historical description of the transformation of institutions, in order to capture a qualitative change of the economic system.
