Abstract

Normal human retrobulbar connective tissue was investigated with regard to its hexosamine-containing material. Most of the hexosamines were found in the glycoprotein fraction, but one-third was found in the glycosaminoglycan fraction. In the latter fraction, hyaluronic acid and dermatan sulphate were identified, together with a fraction containing both glucosamine and galactosamine that appears to be a mixture of two or more polysaecharides.
