Abstract

Four types of complexes derived from pentadentate N 4O 2 Schiff base (SB) ligands having the general formulae; [M(SB)Cl(H 2O) 2], [M 2(SB)Cl 2(H 2O) 5] for Co(II) and Ni(II) and [Cu(SB)Cl] and [Cu 2(SB)Cl 2(H 2O)]H 2O were prepared and investigated. The isolated complexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), IR, electronic and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra and conductance measurements. The electrical resistivities were measured and the activation energies were calculated for the solid complexes. It was found that the resistivities and activation energies of the complexes based on salicylidene derivatives were higher than those of complexes containing the naphthalidene moiety.
