Abstract

Cyclic deformation of a copper single crystal oriented for single slip has been intensively studied in the last twenty years for understanding of the fatigue deformation mechanism of f.c.c. metals. However, the deformation of the copper single crystal oriented for multiple slip has not been studied much. Among the many features of cyclic deformation of the copper single crystal, probably the occurrence of deformation bands (DBs) is the least understood. In the present paper, as a first effort, a simple model was proposed to account for the occurrence of DBs in the copper single crystals oriented for double slip under cyclic deformation.
