Abstract

The ferroelectric properties of SnTe are investigated in the framework of a lattice dynamical shell model with non-linear polarisability. The authors report results for phonon dispersion curves in the ferroelectric and para-electric phases and for the temperature dependence of the soft-mode frequency, of the order parameter and its fluctuations, and of the Debye-Waller factors. The renormalised harmonic approximation leads to results quite different from those of perturbation theory, in particular for T<Tc.
