Abstract

The temperature dependence of the upper critical field reveals that NbN is a paramagnetism limited superconductor with significant electron-electron exchange and correlation potential arising from the Fermi liquid effects, in sharp contrast to the strong spin-orbit scattering effects expected from the relatively high atomic number of Nb and the low electron density of states at the Fermi energy of NbN. The results also indicate that while the normal state resistivity of the films can be altered in a controlled manner, it does not correlate to the spin-orbit scattering rate directly.
