Abstract

The feasibility of magnetic field tuning with passive iron trim elements in a fixed-frequency superconducting cyclotron is examined. The correction span of the system is determined in the case when the tuning elements are placed in air and at the level of the magnet valleys, and is found to be comparable to a tuning system using trim coils mounted on pole tips.
