Abstract
The behaviour of several ns 2 ions doped alkali halides has been studied under an intense ultraviolet laser excitation. From the apparition of a strong F-band coloration and from previous gain measurements, we conclude that an intense reabsorption between excited states occurs, which restricts the possibility of making new laser materials with those systems.
