Abstract

The general importance of the sub-systems of different internal velocity dispersion for theories concercing stellar evolution is emphasized. It seems possible that the sub-systems mark successive stages in stellar evolution within our stellar system. The correspondence between a “quasi-spheroidal” stellar system and a homogeneous rotating spheroid is examined. The results from a previous investigation of potential waves in a stellar system, which was developed into a dynamical theory of the barred spiral nebulae, are summarized and a comparison is made between the theoretical distribution of density in the “bar” and the observed distribution of intensity in two typical barred spirals.
