Abstract

A procedure is proposed to evaluate the partition constant of quenchers between micelles and the aqueous pseudophase employing fluorophores totally excluded from the micelles. The method is applied to the evaluation of the partition constant of TEMPOL in SDS employing pyrenetetrasulfonic acid as fluorescent probe. The value of the partition constant derived from these data is similar to that obtained employing a fluorescent probe totally associated to the micelles. The advantages and limitations of the proposed method are discussed.
