Abstract

The paper studies the error floor performance of uplink and downlink multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) over Rayleigh fading channels. Error floor is investigated for MC-CDMA systems with equal gain combiner (EGC) and minimum mean square error combiner (MMSEC). An integrated theoretical-numerical method is proposed to evaluate the error floor for EGC. Curve fitting approach is used to find a closed form expression for the error floor of MMSEC. These closed form expressions help designers to study the impact of error floor in the uplink without running time consuming simulations. The results depict that MC-CDMA performance is highly degraded in the uplink compared to the downlink.
