Abstract

The equilibrium guiding-centre velocity distribution of the electrons of a plasma in the presence of a very strong constant magnetic field is derived in the zero-correlation approximation. The results are compared with the theory of the nearest neighbour. Under conditions of high temperature or low density the derived distribution, except for the large velocity tail, is expected to be close to the exact guiding-centre velocity distribution.
