Abstract

The Hida belt, one of the Paleozoic-Mesozoic geologic units in central Japan, has been expressed in various ways in English, such as Hida Gaien belt, Hida marginal belt, Circum-Hida terrane, Circum-Hida tectonic zone, etc. When the special issue of this journal entitled Recent progress and future perspective of research on the Hida was edited for publication, as invited editors we recommended the authors to use the expression of Hida belt in order to avoid misunderstanding of the geologic characteristics of this belt by foreign researchers. This note summarizes the discussion between the authors during the process of deciding which is the best expression.
