Abstract

It is pointed out that the commonly accepted representation of the electromagnetic field energy in the presence of magnetized and/or polarized bodies in the space is incorrect. A new variant of the energy representation is justified that is free of the indicated drawbacks. With this energy representation, a new interpretation of the Poynting theorem is derived and a different representation of the electric field momentum is obtained. Using the proposed approach, it is possible to extract more information from the Maxwell equations. The author believes that this circumstance additionally confirms the validity of the presented considerations and calculations.
