Abstract
Pd and Pt monolayers on the (011) surface of bcc metals (Nb,Ta,Mo,W) resemble in many respects the faces of noble metals. We show that this behaviour can be reproduced in a simple tight-binding s-d electron model without invoking any additional mechanism.
