Abstract

A calculation has been made of the scattering matrix for electronic Raman transitions within the 2F 5 2 manifold states of the Ce 3+ ion in a crystal field of hexagonal symmetry. Of the two possible transitions one is related to an antisymmetric, the other to a symmetric scattering tensor. The degree of antisymmetry in the former has been found to be extremely dependent on the frequency of the exciting radiation.
