Abstract

In this work we investigate the propagation and damping of electromagnetic waves in an isotropic homogeneous linear medium where magnetic relaxation phenomena occur. We use a dynamical relaxation equation derived by some authors using the method of nonequilibrium thermodynamics. The presence of electric conductivity is taken into account. Explicit expressions for the complex wave vector, the complex magnetic permeability and the attenuation factor are obtained and discussed. The cases of paramagnetic and diamagnetic media, low and high frequencies are examined.
