Abstract
In this paper, the effects of the presence of viscosity in a fluid flowing through a cylindrical duct, on the sound propagation and attenuation is discussed. The field equations are obtained from the linearized variational equations of the conservation equations. Solutions of viscous case for various flow profiles are obtained and the results are compared with the inviscid and the stationary cases. The effects of shear flow coupled with viscosity are discussed and compared with the case of flow bounded by two infinite planes.
