Abstract

When the molar volume of a binary solid solution depends on composition, composition fluctuations are accompanied by strain fluctuations. In order to describe the process of spinodal decomposition in these systems, we develop a coupled one-dimensional elastodiffusion model that takes account of the developed coherency strains and their gradients. Based on this model we examine the effects of the developed strain gradients on the stability of the solution.
