Abstract

Summary.A number of experiments on the effects and toxicity of dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide and methyl mercaptan on rats are described. The effects of these sulfides are mainly the same as those of hydrogen sulfide. The toxicity, estimated from the concentration necessary to kill a rat in about 15 minutes, decreases in the order hydrogen sulfide ‐ dimethyl disulfide ‐ methylmercaptan ‐ dimethyl sulfide.
