Abstract

Hypersaline lagoons are biotopes with a reduced species diversity, but with highly specialized elements. Energy inflow is usually large, and algal production may therefore be high. Food chains, nevertheless, are usually simple and often restricted to one producer and one consumer level (frequently Artemia or the larvae of an insect are the consumers)
