Abstract

The fact that in the upper atmosphere there is a symmetry of the east-west intensity of the cosmic-ray, brings a difficulty to the Proton Primary Hypothesis which is assumed from the experimental results of the east-west asymmetry on each latitude and at each altitude from sea-level to 10,000 m height. To remedy the situation, Arley assumed that there exist negative protons in the primaries. But the mechanism, by which negative proton directly gives the soft component, has no clearness. In order to make clear to what extent we can solve the problem of east-west effect from the standpoint which is now accepted–that is, primary proton gives π-meson and π-meson decays into µ-meson which gives the soft component by disintegration,–we have investigated the angular distribution between the primary proton and the produced soft component.
