Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical study of the phenomena of Earth tides. The differential equations of stress and motion are established to allow solution under various hypotheses as to elasticity, compressibility, and density in the interior of the Earth, and numerical integrations are made for several Earth models with internal constitutions inferred from recent studies of seismology combined with K. E. Bullen's studies of the density distribution within the Earth. The results are shown to be in satisfactory agreement with several observations of Earth tides.
