Abstract

The conditions for dynamical extinction have been discussed by Cowley, Moodie, Miyake, Takagi and Fujimoto and by Gjϕnner and Moodie. Ling has extended the analysis of Gjϕnnes and Moodie on the effect of axial glide plane to the dynamical extinction in crystals with diamond glide plane. The dynamical extinction condition for the (200) spot in Fd3m structure is that the projection of the center of the Ewald sphere lies on a line passing through (000) and (200) spots as shown in Fig. 1. The electron diffraction pattern of Si taken under the dynamical extinction and Bragg conditions of (200) is shown in Fig. 2. The strongly excited (200) spot can be observed in Fig. 2, which is contradicted with the dynamical extinction prediction. This observation indicates there must be some points not taken into consideration in the derivation of the dynamical extinction condition.
