Abstract
This paper presents the performance analysis of spectrum sensing systems based on double threshold energy detection in which noise uncertainty and κ-µ fading channels, which represents the small-scale variations of the fading signal under both line-of-sight and multipath scenarios, coexist. Receiver Operation Characteristics (ROC) are obtained regarding the double threshold scheme and comparisons are performed against the traditional single threshold method considering the noise uncertainty constraint. Detection probabilities are derived and investigated for both low and high SNR cases considering different threshold values. Moreover, field trial measurements are used in order to investigate the usefulness of the double threshold scheme in energy detection-based spectrum sensing networks under κ-µ fading with the presence of noise uncertainty. Finally, the advantages of SC and MRC diversity techniques are investigated for the proposed system model.
