Abstract

The paper is concerned with the statistical distribution of asperity heights of a rough flat surface. Since the sensor of a profile machine passes over the shoulders of most asperities and not over their peaks, the profile trace so produced will not indicate the distribution directly. The paper derives a means of transforming this apparent distribution to the real peak height distribution.
