Abstract

Collected experimental results of fracture strain in an aged Al-0.57Si-2.03Ge alloy were predicted by using a theoretical model based on fractal geometry principles. A series of fractal dimension values derived from a modified perimeter-area method were employed to test the model. As a result, the predicted values of fracture strain were placed in a difference range between 6% and 15% as compared with the experimental ones. A theoretical lower bound value of D = 1.05 is predicted for large values of fracture strain.
