Abstract

The merciless exploitation of the workers, plundering of the peasantry and urban middle classes by the monopolies, the attacks on democracy and the danger of fascism, the national oppression and the danger of a new and destructive war — all of this has, ultimately, one source, i.e. capitalism. In order to free the workers from class-oppression, to put a definitive end to war, to ensure real democracy, freedom and independence for the people, an end must be made of capitalism and the socialist revolution must be accomplished. In the wide sense, socialist revolution means the totality of the political and economic transformations which lead to the complete liquidation of capitalism and to the construction of socialism. It begins with the political transformation, i.e. breaking the power of the capitalists and setting up the power of the workers. This political transformation is also called in Marxist theory the proletarian revolution. It is clear that the road to such a transformation is not perfectly smooth so that one can succeed without great efforts and political know-how. The passage of the masses of millions — of whole classes and social levels — to the decisive battle for power is a complicated and many-faceted process.
