Abstract

Available data on the temperature dependence of the critical resolved shear stress of rather concentrated CuZn, CuAl, CuGe and CuMn solid solutions have been critically examined as a function of the solute concentration. For a given alloy system there exists a critical solute concentration c m, below which the distribution of solute atoms is random and above that some clustering or local order occurs in the crystal. The value of c m strongly depends on the size-misfit factor δ = ( 1 b )( db dc ) through the relation c m = Kδ −4.5, with K ≈ 5 × 10 −7.
