Abstract

This paper describes a study of the phase delay (advance) due to the interference of two ultrasonic shear waves in an orthotropic medium. Criteria for determining the principal polarizations by using the time interval averaging method were derived. Experimental measurements of the principal polarizations in cold-rolled steel specimens were conducted. The anomaly met in the transit time-polarization angle measurements can be explained by the theoretical derivations.
