Abstract

An improved procedure for the determination of alkoxy groups is described. The sample is treated with a reaction mixture which contains large amounts of organic solvent in a glass-stoppered tube. After reaction is complete the tube with contents is transferred to a distilling apparatus and the alkyl iodide is distilled off. The method gives good results with very volatile compounds, with highly insoluble compounds, with samples containing large amounts of oxidizing agents, and with samples containing sulphur compounds. Since many samples can be treated at the same time one operator can carry out a very large number of analyses in a day, especially if two or more distilling units are used.
