Abstract

A hydraulic short-stroke device was developed to draw 100 mm diameter cups from 180 mm diameter blanks, applying blank-holding forces and punch forces that are proportional to a pressure developed within the device itself. In an earlier paper, the results of experiments with aluminium and copper blanks were reported, where the punch and blank-holder forces were calculated from the pressure measured at various values of the punch stroke. In the present paper, the hydraulic pressure is calculated theoretically and compared with the measurement-based values of the earlier paper.
