Abstract

Stabilization and destabilization effects caused by adding or raising a potential barrier are studied for a simple one-dimensional quantum system. Calculating the motion of the corresponding S-matrix poles for varying barrier size reveals the scenario for the transition between bound, virtual and resonance states, and shows that the presence of a barrier leads to nonanalyticity of the ground state in the involved coupling constants.
