Abstract

A survey is given of the integrated Hartman-Perdok roughening transition theory, developed during the last 15 years. Special attention is paid to a new extension of this theory taking the fluid part of the interface into account. A morphological theory concerning an explanation of the occurrence of faces (hklm) on modulated crystals is reviewed.
