Abstract

Variational techniques coupled with nonlocal boundary conditions at some finite artificial boundary are used to establish the well-posedness of a finite problem and its equivalence to the exterior Stokes problem in three dimensions. Questions related to the existence, uniqueness, regularity and approximations of the solutions by finite elements are discussed. We obtain error estimates between the actual solution and the discretized solutions over the finite region.
