Abstract

Relations for computation of the plane of best focus in white light and the tolerance of maximum of chromatic aberration by using Strehl's and Hopkin's criteria are derived. The correction of the chromatic aberration is taken as the best, if the position of the best focus is identical with that plane in which the condition of the perfect imaging is fulfilled for all wavelengths of the spectral interval. The considerations are based on the precondition that the monochromatic aberrations of the optical system are negligibly small and that only the chromatic aberrations are effective.
