Abstract

The system of conservation laws of nonlinear chromatography for mixtures of heterovalent ions is studied for the ideal model in which interactions between adsorbed species are neglected. It is proved that when diffusion is neglected, the system is hyperbolic. The ω transformation by which the system decouples in the homovalent case, is shown not to exist for mixtures of heterovalent ions. Furthermore, the changes of concentrations and affinities across shocks are investigated.
