Abstract

Abstract Since 1969 an empirical relation has been suggested by Sastry and Mulimani that connects the formation enthalpy h of a Schottky defect in insulators with the Debye temperature Θ D . By considering the classical Lindemann rule between Θ D and the melting temperature T M the above empi_rcal relation finally leads to a correlation between h and TM.
